How well does Solar work for Bellingham and Whatcom County?

     On top of the several programming languages and database interfaces I'm studying for my own work in creating a menu and deals service. It's come to my attention several times that solar technology and its study will make quite a nice report. This was inspired by a friend who did one at WCC, and came to the conclusions that an entire cell tower with panels could operate independent from the grid during the day.
     I'm curious to see what could be done with businesses that operate almost entirely in the day, in other words they close at or before 9PM. The local mall here, I believe fits that bill and has tons of roofspace, just as many other malls in even better solar intensity regions have as well.

The Fourth

Hope all of you had a good Fourth. Mine was good, wish it was better but hey, no missing fingers. Did anyone hear that howl that happened several times that night. I'm guess it was some sort of timing thing to notify people about the Fireworks in the bay but damn sometimes it was really annoying. And for the first time it went off, it stuck there a good couple of minutes before turning off. Anyone know what the source was? Was it coming from the launch boat or WWU's ancient alarm system?

How we're growing as a city

It seems almost surreal at the rate of which we have grown in the past 10 years as a city. And the weirdest thing is it seems that we've been doing somewhat wrong in my mind. Why do we have 5 big-box buildings on the same commercial land plot and then a large plot of vacant land near the freeway? And yet Meridian continues to expand upward towards Lynden? Why do the big-box stores find it easier to go outward towards our city limits causing more traffic as more people are required to take a vehicle to get there. The city has speculation over land use, why then do we have a problem with development going outward when we have a large lot of unused commercial space sitting right there?

The life and times have gone too quick

I've been everywhere in odd very distinct directions. Shot down south for Northern California to see the Redwoods. Now I'm here in Jersey for a funeral. What's next Alaska and Japan? I'm getting too pooped to drive.

Well, so long but only for a real quick getaway.

So I finally get a vacation. Yes, I know that I began this blog for photos of Bellingham but I don't think it would hurt to throw some photos of the Redwoods and the surrounding area would it?
I really wanted to get alot of Ski to sea pictures but to my dismay and a mention by my girlfriend, I am now going to California for my Memorial day weekend. I have mixed feelings but hope to get some amazing shots.

Spring has hopefully started already.

It was trying to snow this morning, mixed in with the rain.
Eventually after getting tired of trying to delete my old blogger account, I headed off into the city to take some pics. My brother had recently told me that the harbor was pretty awesome looking a lil' while ago but by the time I got down there the fog had cleared, at least on this side of the bay.
I did manage to test out some features on my camera, although my precision and knowledge of its workings made things a little worse than what the auto settings would deliver.
Shooting with his 55-200mm lens I managed to get some good pics of a seagull and the old abandoned warehouse entrance south of the former GP.

Hey, everyone.

So I'm just going to get to the point. I'm going to post what's going on in this small place known as Bellingham in the North West corner of the state of Washington. It's cold here and it can be warm here. It is rarely ever hot, although it has reached the high nineties here at least once a year. Most of what will be posted here will be post-event notes and photos.

In fact I just bought a new Nikon D60 just so I could take some great photos of this town that I've grown up in. Having lived here all of my life I don't know if I'll ever leave, I've traveled aroudn the states and am sure I love it here. More recently I've come under the gun of what I'm going to do with my great degree from the local tech. school. I could just force myself out of this town, and find a job where I get more credit for being smart and being myself. Or I may head back to school to become a computer programmer. I really don't know which direction I want to go, but I do know that I want to share the sights of this town with others.
